New Yorker Cover

I appreciate your thoughts on what I refer to as the general public. Unlike you I never assume a person is intelligent until they prove otherwise. I must be an elitist because I know I am smarter than the general public. I ride public transportation everyday to and from work and marvel at the sheer ignorance around me. I go to the movies every week and I am amazed by the levels of stupidity.

Here is what the New Yorker magazine said about the Obama cover:

"The burning flag, the nationalist-radical and Islamic outfits, the fist-bump, the portrait on the wall? All of them echo one attack or another. Satire is part of what we do, and it is meant to bring things out into the open, to hold up a mirror to prejudice, the hateful, and the absurd. And that’s the spirit of this cover,” reads the statement.

Now, here's the sad part: the general public does not understand political satire or for that matter can not read at a middle school level, so as they pass the newstands, bookstores and magazine aisles, all they will get from this irresponsible and despicable cover is a message of hate. The hate already grows in the general public for anything not like them. Yes, some readers will find the cover offensive and tasteless but those weren't the people we had to worry about anyway. I know the cover was not about Obama but a way to point out the absurd nature of that point of view depicted on the cover. But, sadly as you point out; it was lost on the masses.

I pray that this country does the right thing and elects a President that will provide the leadership to protect our way of life and bring change where change is needed.

Shadowsmile, your blog entry was passionate and poignant. Thank you!

New Yorker Cover

Another unfunny New Yorker cartoon?  Their consecutive streak dwarfs Ripken's.
